REVIEW: Weapons

Okay, picture this like it was a commercial on the television. Our protagonist -- do commercials have protagonists? We shall refer to him by our generation's gender-neutral pronoun, the ubiquitous, "Dude." Dude walks into a music store. He picks up, I don't know, several CDs. Let's say a Rage Against the Machine, a Guano Apes, and an early Sneaker Pimps. These shiny plastic containers of music in hand, he strides confidently to the check stand, only to trip over an ill-placed box of guitar picks. His planned purchases fly into the air as he plows face-first into the dingy carpet. After hovering in mid-air, spinning for comic effect, the CDs bash onto Dude's noggin with enough force to knock all sense from him. His fractured focus swirls, shifting back and forth, until he pulls his shit together on the lone disc sitting before him. Lone disc? Didn't he have three? Nay, this sole album, seemingly encompassing influences of many varied acts, is exactly what he wants to put in his car stereo and, shall we say, rock the fuck out. Dude happily pays for his newfound album, while the audience is allowed to laugh at the painfully exaggerated lumps on his forehead, as no one is immune to the power of slapstick comedy. Fade out.

For People Who Like : Rock that's crunchy, with a side of programmed strings, a dash of multi gender vocalists, and exclusive happy meal toys straight from the UK.
Not For People Who Like : Jem, but not punk rock, rock with rapping, political rock, or pretty much anything with loud guitars and/or drums.
Includes : Featured vocals by "trip-hop" singer-songwriter Jem, whose brother and sister are in the band.

Lightbulb!

I think I'm going to start posting my music reviews here, since this thing has music uploady capability. Reviews are much better when you can actually hear what I'm talking about, so I sound like less of a madwoman when I write some rambling description of the awesomeness of the breakdown and bridge of that one Ace of Base song or whatever.

(Yes, I'm the last Ace of Base fanatic in North America. Go figure.)

Hey, the music uploader on this thing is neat. I've uploaded a few dnb tracks, and the best pop song ever, so take a listen if you have a chance.

Johnny Boy - "You Are the Generation That Bought More Shoes and You'll Get What You Deserve"
No more perfect a pop song has ever been written. It has handclaps, exuberant YEAH YEAH vocals, and a drum beat and production style to rival anything Phil Spector ever kicked out. If this song doesn't make you smile, deliver your body to the nearest science lab, because you must be dead.

Unknown Error - "Shadows (Unicron Remix)"
The original version of this song is the most epic nerdcore dee-bee tune I've heard, and the remix manages to 1up it. I love strings over breaks and dirty, dirty bass sounds.

Temulent - "Chi Reshape"
Originally a Todd Buckler choon put out on my friends' label, remixed by the ever vicious Temulent for his and Submerged's sub-label, Obliterati. This was probably the second drum n bass track I ever (consciously) heard, making it one of the foundations of my musical adventures today.

Psidream - "Secret Life"
Again with strings, breaks, and bone liquefying bass. Arguably one of my favorite drum n bass tracks ever. I have this one on 10" vinyl from the Ohm Resistance/Offshore subscriber series. I used to hook up my computer to my mixer so I could play it on infinte loop, record to MP3 and back again.

DB and Stakka - "Groupies"
A tight tune with a catchy hook from two of the guys who were instrumental in bringing drum n bass to the US via Breakbeat Science in NYC. Also found as the opening track on DB's Breakbeat Science compilation. It's the one with the cute dinosaur illustration on the jewel jacket.

What TV show(s) will you be watching this season? Why?

I'm not sure I'll have cable once I move back to Helena, but I'm currently DVRing The Ultimate Fighter 4, CSI Prime, and Boston Legal. So we have, uh... barely dressed guys beating eachother senseless, gorecore nerdcore, and William Shanter vs James Spader in a cagematch to the death, David E. Kelley style.

I'm sure that says more about me than any profile thinger would.
